5 Things to avoid so you can remain committed to your goals

Year after year, people make New Year’s resolutions only to give them up by the second week of February. According to the research, only 12% of people stick to their resolutions over a single year. If you’ve made your resolution about love and attracting your soulmate, these goal-setting and habit-changing strategies apply to you.

There are reasons we give up on our goals, and here are a few to be mindful of, so you can stay the course.

  1. An unrealistic unspecific goal is attracting your soulmate, a prevalent New Year’s resolution. Attracting a soulmate for most people requires a significant lifestyle overhaul of how you spend your time, habits, and even a mindset shift.
  2. Too many goals. You’re more likely to be successful if you channel all your energy towards one goal. Select the one that is your most immediate priority instead of piling on many goals at once. Developing a healthy and committed relationship in 2022 is a worthy goal for anyone single.
  3. If you don’t plan, you plan to fail. Don’t make last-minute decisions because they’ll likely be what’s on your mind at that moment. Instead, create a plan of action, which helps release any stress of figuring out what’s next.
  4. Not tracking your progress may hinder your success. Since change takes time, you may miss your accomplishments and even give up if you don’t record them. Even if you slip up now and then, being able to zoom out and see yourself slowly trending upward or downward will do wonders for your motivation!
  5. You don’t think about or connect to a meaningful reason for your goal. Most people don’t focus enough on the “why” of the change they want to make. Spend some time thinking through the pros and benefits; what happens if you don’t pursue your goal? What will you feel when you achieve it?

Goals require new habits that take time to learn, and once in a while, you will slip up and revert to the old you. Don’t beat yourself up. No one is perfect, and most people fall off the wagon. All you have to do is get back on.
